ChatGPT Feature Overview

  1. Models and Model Updates

In our context, large language models (LLMs) are the core of chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. These are deep learning models trained on huge datasets to generate content from human language prompts.

OpenAI offers diverse models with varying capabilities. GPT-3.5 made ChatGPT a star. It’s fast and available without an account. However, the newest flagship, GPT-4o, is much more advanced, providing quicker and more accurate responses across text, voice, and vision.

  1. Image Generation with DALL·E

DALL·E creates images from text prompts. The latest version, DALL·E 3, allows you to generate images and edit them using a selection brush and text. While it’s a handy tool, it's not the best image generator out there. For professional needs, consider other options.

One more visual feature is OCR - Optical Character Recognition.

When you upload an image ChatGPT will be able to read and analyze it. Recently it has significantly improved.

  1. Voice Mode: Text to Speech/Speech to Text

ChatGPT now supports voice mode. You can convert text to speech and vice versa using the microphone button or by holding the spacebar. This feature is powered by the Whisper model, which excels in multilingual speech recognition, translation, and language identification.

  1. Data Controls

Data controls let you manage your chat history and decide if your conversations should train the models. You can export your ChatGPT data or delete your account. Additionally, you can share chat links with others in your workspace.

  1. Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive Integration

You can now upload files directly from Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, making it easier for ChatGPT to access and understand your documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

  1. Memory

ChatGPT can remember details across chats, enhancing its ability to provide relevant responses. To make ChatGPT remember something, simply type: “remember that I like ___”. This feature can be turned on or off in settings.

  1. Custom Instructions

Custom instructions allow you to tailor ChatGPT’s responses to your needs. These settings apply to new conversations and can be updated anytime. However, you can’t change them mid-conversation; you’ll need to start a new chat for changes to take effect.

  1. Custom GPTs

Custom GPTs are specialized versions of ChatGPT that can be tailored for specific purposes. It’s one of the most important features now. They allow extended instructions, keep a constant knowldege base, and even API connections. There’s a huge collection of Custom GPTs built by other people and companies.
